1Sa 17:29 And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?”
1Sa 17:30 Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did.
David had been sent by his father to deliver supplies to his brother who were in the battle field and to find out how they were doing. Goliath came up and defied the army of Israel . When the men of Israel saw the man, they fled from him and were dreadfully afraid.
David heard that it had been declared that any man who would kill him would be Saul’s son in-law and would enjoy privileges of the royal family. When Eliab, David’s brother heard David asking what would be done to the man who would kill Goliath, he misread David’s intentions and became angry with him.
Instead of picking a quarrel, David turned from him “towards another”. Eliab’s use of abusive language was intended to grieve and discourage David and by extension quench the noble fire which was glowing in him.
Christian friends , ” Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor .” ( Pro 20:3). Like David, we must learn to walk away from abusive, disrespectful and all agents of discouragement. Walk away from petty , jealous orchestrated fights schemed to derail you from your God given destiny.
