2Ki 6:16 -17And he answered, Fear not; for they that are with us are more than they that are with them.
And Elisha prayed, and said, Jehovah, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
The king of Syria was warring Israel but his plans were being thwarted. He discovered that something was amiss as his plot always aborted. Elisha, the prophet, was countering his moves. This was through Elisha’s divine revelation of the schemes of ambush that were being plotted against Israel. The Syrian King was furious and sent his militia to seize the prophet.
When Elisha’s servant saw the horses, chariots and a great host besiege them; he was hit by a panic attack. He saw their end and knew that they were as good as dead meat. He saw defeat slapping them on their faces and did not see a way out of the lurking danger. He dashed to his master to report the breaking news. Elisha did not give in to the enemy’s tactic of fear but arose in faith and urged his servant to cast his fears off.
Though exposed to the same circumstance, their view totally differed. How did this happen? Their perspective was all that mattered. Elisha was operating from a “faith perspective” while his servant was operating from a “natural realm”. His eyes were at a natural level focusing on the current situation and the environment full of impossibilities. This left him vulnerable to fear and anxiety as worry got its strong grip on him.
It might be that we are glaring at a pandemic which is threatening to devour the populace. More than affecting the health, it has hit the economy badly with adverse effects shaking the nations. We are trying to adjust to the new normal but the fears of unknown are taking toll on us. Even in such situation, be bold as you focus on God for He has the way out. He will preserve and deliver you from the plague. May your eyes be open to behold the vast army of heaven that is surrounding you despite the contrary situation staring at you.
