Isa 41:14 “Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I will help you,” says the LORD and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Isa 41:15 “Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and beat them small, and make the hills like chaff.
Why are the Israelites called a worm? The worm does not smite but with it’s mouth, which is very tender, gnaws the cedars and slowly and with time destroys the hardwood. Although Israel is weak and fragile, it is endowed with strength to deal with every wicked power.
Mountains and hills are here used metaphorically for the kings and princes of the surrounding nations. A threshing sledge was drawn by oxen over the corn to separate the grain from the ear. The threshing of grain is often used as a symbol of the destruction of God’s enemies.
God has always used the weak to shame the mighty. He has always used the lowly and the most disregarded people to accomplish great tasks. He will make you able to deal with all your enemies no matter how mighty they are.
Although men may have considered you a weak earthly vessel, within you dwells the excellence of divine power. No array of human forces can stand against you.
