Jos 5:9 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.
A reproach is a condition of shame and disgrace. The children of Israel faced a lot of disgrace during the four hundred years they were slaves in Egypt. They were accustomed to hard labour, were beaten up, killed and treated badly.
In the wilderness, things were not very good for them. They faced scarcity basically in all areas, fiery snakes, frequent battles and temptation of all kinds.
Behold , a time of putting behind all that and starting afresh was at hand. God told Joshua, ” This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt .” The people would now enter the promised land and leave behind the disgrace of past.
As it was in the days of old, God is rolling away our disgrace. It could be sickness (Mat 4:23 ), hunger ( Eze 36:30), barrenness ( Gen 30:23,Isa 4:1, Luk 1:25), widowhood ( Isa 54:4) or even the injuries and problems from the enemies ( lam 5:1-3, Neh 1:3)
Today, if you are facing any situation of shame and disgrace, do not despair. God is rolling away the reproach.
