Psa 107:27-29 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits’ end. Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.
This Psalm has been referred to as a “Thanksgiving to the Lord for his great work of deliverance.” The psalm has a fourfold pattern of rescue. The above portion is the fourth rescue.
There was a terrible storm at the sea. When the ship is tossed, the souls of the seamen melts with fear. There is so much disturbance causing the occupants to ” reel to and fro”. It makes them giddy, stagger and become like drunken men.
The whole ship crew cannot take it any more. Their wisdom and experience cannot help them; they are at the Wits’ end. In their distress, they cry to the Lord. The Lord graciously hear them and he causes the storm to be still. The surface of the sea becomes smooth and smiling.
You may be at your wits’ end ; You cannot take it anymore. Your education, experience, wisdom and connections cannot sort you out. Don’t give up ! It’s time to come boldly to the throne of grace and cry out to Him.
” They cried to the Lord in their trouble, And he brought them out of their distress. He caused the storm to be still ”
