Luk 1:20 “But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”
Zachariah was a priest and belonged to the priestly division of Abijah. His wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. While on duty and burning incense before the Lord, an angel of the Lord appeared before bringing the good news of the birth of John the Baptist.
The Angel Gabriel explained to him of how great John would be and what he was going to accomplish. However, Zachariah inquired of how that would happened because he was already an old man and his wife was well along in years. On account of his age, he doubted that it could happen.
Because he did not believe, the Angel told him that he would remain silent until the day that happened.
That’s exactly what happens with many believers. Although we profess the greatness of our God and the many things he is able to accomplish, our hearts are full of doubts of the practicability of the same.
Mar 11:23 “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says.
