Psalms 23:4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
The phrase “valley of the shadow of death” most likely refers to deep ravines and canyon with sharp cliffs and huge rock formation with deep dangerous caves bounded with sharp cutting rock edges. And, it was not at all uncommon in Israel for a shepherd to have to travel through one of these dark ravines where danger was imminent , either from the cliffs themselves or from animals hiding in the caves waiting for prey.
And so it is with life. Although we often travel through what appears to be dangerous paths, we need not to fear because the shepherd is with us and is able to ward off any danger by his rod and staff. God is powerful enough to protect us from any calamity.
As we embrace the new normal, there is a lot of uncertainty. Are fangs of these pandemic waiting to pang as we reopen? Where are we to get the resources to cater for the burdens and responsibilities of life?
We know that the Shepherd will not lead us into want but to abundance. The seemingly awaiting dangers are taken care of by his rod and staff. If he leads us into rough terrains ,he will provide strong shoes for all weather. Get rid of fear and anxiety and faithfully and trustfully follow the shepherd.
