Pro 25:21,22 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
Our response to unfair and cruel treatment will determine and reflect the level of our own inner peace and joy. The best way to overcome evil is to express our love to our enemies by acts of kindness.
If your enemy is hungry give him bread to eat; and if he thirsty, give him water to drink. Instead of seizing that opportunity to cut off supplies from them so that they ” suffocate”, you take it as an opportunity to repay evil with good.
How does the enemy feel when his assaults are met with good deeds? Burning coals! Burning coals represent shame at one’s improper actions which are so clearly revealed in light of another’s love and forgiveness.
Kindness is the best way to turn an enemy into a friend. It causes God to judge the unrepentant enemy even more severely. Kindness is the Christian response to entrenched evil. Whether he relents towards you or not, you shall not lose; continue stocking the coals!
