1Sa 26:23 “May the LORD repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed.
The Ziphites informed Saul where David was. Saul moved out with considerable force in quest of him. David gained intelligence of Saul’s movement and took view of his camp. David and one of his men ventured into Saul’s camp at night and found him and all his guards fast asleep.( 1Sa 26:6,7)
David had an opportunity to kill Saul that night. His companion urged him to do so but David would not take Saul’s life; he restrained himself and only carried away his spear and a cruse of water. When Saul found out that David had spared his life, he was quite overwhelmed by David’s kindness.
What happened to David happens to all believers. Opportunities present themselves to us to silence our perceived critics and enemies once and for all. Sometimes we are tempted to show them ” exactly who we are”. When God gives you restraining grace, you will not give that ” hard slap” and those unprintable words will not stream from your mouth. Vengeance belongs to God.
