Lev 6:12 ‘And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. Lev 6:13 ‘A perpetual fire shall burn on the altar; it shall never go out.
The fire had to be kept burning. The priests had to keep the fire burning by adding firewood. Although the gathering of firewood in the desert was a difficult assignment, the desire to maintain the command God had given them was great.
The fire symbolized the presence of God. Every morning, the priest had to remove the ash and arrange the firewood – they were to keep on feeding the fire. The sacred fire must have endured throughout the forty years the children of Israel were in the wilderness and beyond.
When we say that we are on fire for Jesus, we mean that there is a strong presence of God in our lives. This fire must keep on burning day and night. We must purpose to keep the fire burning by feeding it with proper and intensive study of the word of God, fervent prayers , praise and worship : – the fire must be kept continuously burning in our hearts.
