Luke 9:32-34
Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters – one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. ” While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud .
Jesus took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the countenance changed , and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor talking with Jesus.
Upon waking up , Peter, James and John experienced palpable glory. Peter could not imagine leaving all that and get back to his normal glory – less life. He volunteered to build three shelters and be hosted there forever. Living under glorious cover wasn’t as a result of rise in physical altitude or presence of Elijah and Moses. It was the presence of the king of glory on a higher spiritual altitude that made all the difference.
Hosting the master calls for building a shelter not on the mountain top but in the hearts of men. The doors and the gates of our hearts need to be flung open to usher in the king of glory and to have a continuous fellowship with Him .This will ensure a continuous dwelling under the glorious heavenly cover on the mountain top of prayers.
