1Ti 4:7 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself rather to godliness.
1Ti 4:8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
Something is said to be profitable if it pays off. If something is of some use or gives advantage to somebody ,then it is said to be profitable. Living for God is not detrimental to a successful life. The world would like you to believe that godliness is such a sad , boring existence.
There are undoubtedly benefits in physical/ bodily exercises. It’s value however is only limited . But godliness is profitable for all things; in interpersonal relationships, in family relationships, in social relationships, in Church ….you cannot find one area of life that godliness will not profit.
Godliness attracts God’s favor, ensures God’s protection ( Job 1:10), promotion, prosperity ( 2Chr 26:5) and perpetuity ( Psa 91:14,16). You enjoy these benefits in this life and a better life when the curtains fall.
