Isa 35:1 The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; Isa 35:2 It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the excellency of our God.
The language used here is figurative. The wilderness, wasteland and desert denotes a dry place, a place without springs and streams of water. These are places where nothing meaningful takes place ; there is nothing to sustain life.
But Yahweh was going to transform the people of God from a wilderness to a garden. The once unproductive and unattractive people would bounce back with joy and gladness. God was going restore them back to the promised land and they shall once again blossom as the rose. The Lord will clothe them with his glory.
Jehovah is not only going restore us but he is also going to rejuvenate us. He is going to make us more fruitful, innovative, dynamic and effective in our sphere of influence. Once again the wilderness, the wasteland and the desert will burst forth with song and dancing declaring the faithfulness of our God.
