2Co 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 2Co 1:4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
The word comfort means soothing with sympathy. It has the idea of encouraging, strengthening, helping and making strong.
Paul , having gone through a lot of tribulations, opposition and near death moments was definitely a recipient not only of God’s mercies and encouragement, but also his comfort. Because of the comfort received, he was able to endure all troubles and even rejoice in them.
God comforts us for two reasons. First, its because we are his children. As the human father loves his children, so is his love for us. Secondly, God comforts us so that we may share his comfort with others who are in problems. He is God of compassion and of all comfort.
