2Ki 7:3,4 Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, “Why stay here until we die? If we say, ‘We’ll go into the city the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.”
Four leprous men were outside the gate of Samaria having a discussion to determine their fate. Leprosy was a horribly disfiguring ,contagious and excruciatingly painful skin disease. Due to its highly contagious nature ,they had to be isolated.
They weighed and discussed the best solution to their problem . If they did nothing and remained there, they were going to die. If they went into the city, they would still die because of the great famine. So they chose the only option that had a 50% chance of survival – Going over to the camp of the Arameans. Though they were surrounded by death from all sides, they confronted one of the death option from which came their divine salvation.
Writing ourselves off is a behavioral and psychological practice amongst many. Others act dead before they die. Sitting there ,doing nothing and waiting for whatever happens isn’t the best option in handling a crisis. We must put our faith into action for faith without works is dead .”Don’t sit and die.” Swing into action and influence the outcome.
