Luk 7:12-14 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”
As he approached the city gate, Jesus and his disciples stumbled on a funeral procession. The dead man was the only son to a widow. Her case was a desperate one. She had lost her husband and now her only son – her only means of support.
The crowd in the procession would have gone home. The poor widow would have gone to her abode alone with a lot of pain. She desperately needed help. When Jesus showed up, He told the widow, “don’t cry.” Then He touched the coffin and the son was restored to life.
We may not be in a burial procession but the situation we may be in might be a desperate one. The good news is that, Jesus is passing our way today. When He shows up, our mourning will cease, our burdens will be lifted and our joy restored. May every dead situation come back to life in Jesus name!
