Phi 1:12,13 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;
When Paul wrote this letter, he was a prisoner in Rome. But even though Paul’s circumstances were bad, God was bringing good out of them. Paul’s sufferings and chains had served to advance the gospel.
Further more, because of Paul’s imprisonment, his fellow Christians in Rome had been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
The first opportunity for gospel witness involved the palace guard, an elite military force charged with protecting the Roman emperor and his concerns. As the soldiers rotated shifts, each heard Paul’s message.
When we face trouble and persecutions, let us always remember that our difficulties can become doors of opportunities. Let us always remember that “…. all things works for good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” ( Rom 8:28)
