Num 20:12 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.”
Which offence did Moses commit to warrant his exclusion from the promised land? There was no water in the wilderness of Zin. The Congregation gathered together against Moses and Aaron . They claimed that it would have been better to die in Egypt than to suffer such hardship in a dry wilderness. The Lord commanded Moses to speak to the to rock before their eyes and it would yield it’s water.(Num 20:8)
Moses did not perceive that speaking to the rock alone would be sufficient. In that regard , he smote the rock with the rod. He did this twice indicating that he permitted his spirit to be carried away by the people’s disobedience. By so doing , he did not believe in God and did not honor him in the presence of the congregation of Israel. Therefore Moses was excluded from those people who were to enter the promised land.
We must never allow unbelief to creep in our lives even when the situation appears impossible. We must believe at all times that he who called us is faithful and will bring to pass all that he has promised.
