Luk 1:30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Luk 1:31 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.
Favour is defined as preferential treatment shown to somebody. In this regard, the recipient is granted kindness, goodwill, an approving attitude of which they do not qualify to receive in normal circumstances.
Our text forms an integral part of what is referred to as the Annunciation. This is basically the breaking of the good news of the birth of Christ to Mary by the Angel Gabriel. It was so unexpected, so sudden, so extraordinary, and was so high a honor that she was filled with anxious thoughts, and did not know what to make out of it.( Albert Barnes’ New Testament commentary)
Mary had found favor with God. God was ready to enter into the world He had created by taking the nature of a human being. Mary was the one who was assigned that special duty which she gladly accepted.
God chooses to use the imperfect but available human beings who choose to trust him to accomplish His purposes in this world. Believers are highly favoured because Jesus is a lifelong resident in their hearts. Because Jesus lives in us, we are able to attain what we cannot attain on our own.
