Mar 9:34 But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. Mar 9:35 And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.
As they walked, the disciples began arguing among themselves. They wanted to know which one among them was the greatest. When Jesus asked them what they were talking about, they felt embarrassed. However Jesus did not condemn their ambition but seized the moment to put leadership in its right perspective.
Jesus gave them a very important lesson: Anyone who wanted to be the greatest, he must be the last and a servant of them all. Those who humbled themselves, and gave service to others would be exalted. Being first did not come through aggressiveness and privilege but through humility and service.
Christian friends, those that are last in the eyes of men are first in the eyes of God. The world is the opposite the kingdom of God. If anyone desire to be the first, the same shall be the
last of all and a servant of all. Greatness is determined by the service given to God and humanity.
