1Sa 15:35 Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the Lord was grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
The Lord wanted to punish the Amalekites because they waylaid the children of Israel as they came up from Egypt. So Samuel instructed Saul to go and attack them and totally destroy everything that belonged to them.
But when Saul attacked the Amalekites, he did not follow the instructions to the latter. 1Sa 15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed. This thing displeased the Lord so much… And the lord grieved that he had made Saul the king .
The word of God addresses how we ought to conduct ourselves when faced with various situations and circumstances. It is the blueprint to which we subscribe. Sometimes, knowingly and willingly we choose to do the opposite of what is expected. By doing so, we grieve the Holy Spirit who lives in us. When we persistently ignore the Lord, our relationship with Him is greatly affected.
