Ezr 6:15 Now the temple was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.
Nebuchadnezzar had burned down the temple in the fifth month 586 BC ( 2Ki 25:11). It was about 23 years after Cyrus had issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Palestine and about 70years after Nebuchadnezzar had destroyed the temple when they started rebuilding it.
They took four and a half years to construct the temple. They found themselves encouraged by the prophesying of Haggai and Zechariah. They got the support of a heathen king – King Darius. The work went on so well that it was finished on the third day of the month of Adar (February – March) , which was in the sixth year of the reign of king Darius.
