Mat 21:8-10 And a very great multitude spread their garments on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!”And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”
These are the moments celebrated by Christian churches on the Palm Sunday. It is also referred to as the triumphal entry. The prophet Zechariah had prophesied that the Messiah would enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey ( Zec 9:9)
The disciples brought the donkey and Jesus sat on it and rode to Jerusalem. A big multitude followed him. Many spread their cloaks on the road. Others spread Palm branches before him as a sign of joy and victory. Then people shouted ” Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord ! This was a wonderful reception befitting a king!
Jesus entered Jerusalem openly as the Messiah ! This was a profound act of honor and acclamation. May we accord him the same reception in our lives , churches, families, businesses and workplaces. He is and remains the Messiah, the King of kings and the Lord of lords ! Hallelujah!
