Gen 28:20,21 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, โIf God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my fatherโs house, then the LORD will be my God .
This was at Bethel where Jacob had an encounter with the Lord in a dream on his way to Laban as he fled from Esau. He asked God to be with him, watch over him, and provide for his needs so that he would return safely. In essence, Jacob was making a personal commitment to Yahweh as his God.
And for sure, God heard his prayers and granted him success. From that time on, God would introduce Himself to Jacob as the God of his Fathers Abraham and Isaac. To the Israelites, He would introduce Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
And because the Lord is our God , he will not only answer our prayers, but He will always go before us, exalt every valley, bring low every mountain and make smooth the rough places ( Isa 40:4). When the Lord is your God, there will be signs of it in your life ; He will be with you , watch over you , provide the daily bread and the raiments to put on.
