Jer 29:4-6 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who were carried away captive, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit.Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters–that you may be increased there, and not diminished.
This is part of Jeremiah’s letter sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other people Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile. The letter was delivered through Elasah son of Shaphan and Gamariah son of Hilkiah who had been sent by Zedekiah King of Judah to Babylon.
Apparently , the Israelites were living in makeshift houses and some had even refused to unpack. Jeremiah advised them to settle down and make life as normal as practically possible. He told them to build houses and settle in them, plant gardens and eat their produce, take wives for their sons and give their daughters for marriage, beget children and multiply. He advised them to bloom in the land God had planted them.
You may have been relocated, doing a job you don’t like, living in an estate with a bad reputation or in the midst of a people with a different culture etc. The advise remains; settle down and bloom. For as long it is God who has planted you there, you will prosper. We must increase and not decrease.
