2Ki 1:16 Then Elijah said to Ahaziah, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Since you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?—therefore you will not leave the bed on which you lie, but will certainly die .’”
Ahaziah the king of Israel fell through the grid in his chambers and became sick from the injury. So he sent messengers, to go and consult Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, if he would recover from the sickness. Elijah the Tishbite went to meet the messengers and said to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’
Baal-zebub was an idol worsipped in the Philistine city of Ekron and was accredited with miracles of healing. Its synonym with Beelzebul whom Jesus was accused of using.“He drives out demons by the power of Beelzebul (Satan), the ruler of the demons.” (Luk 11:15)
Upon getting an injury ,instead of seeking the Lord, Ahaziah turned to a false god .
Where do you turn to when you receive painful” injuries “? Many people are miserable because they have repeated Ahaziah’s mistake. They look for help in all the wrong places. They search for strength, fulfillment, and comfort in drugs, mistakenly assuming that a pill, a bottle, or an injection can provide life’s missing ingredient. Others turn to various indulgences and illicit relationships, while others turn to witchcraft, sorcery and idols.
Learn from Ahaziah that turning to false powers rather than to the Lord will yield death(faith life sermons)
