Exo 4:2 So the Lord said to him ,what is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.”
God has a tendency of using what we have to accomplish the mission he bestows on us. Sometimes we may disregard what we have, considering it of no value not knowing that should we surrender it to the Lord, he will use it for His Glory.
The rod was symbolic of God’s authority. Moses had a rod to correct and guide the flock as a shepherd. For Moses, God was orchestrating a shift from leading Jethro’s flock to leading God’s covenant people. The Great Shepherd had found a shepherd whom he would entrust to lead His flock; the Israelites.
We should not look down on our experiences for they are the training grounds God will use to usher us to our area of calling. Our proficiencies are not in vain for God can shift them to be of use in His kingdom. Moses’ use of the rod proved that God had sent him. Previously it was an ordinary shepherd’s rod but for the new assignment it was to attest that he was sent by God for the mission of delivering the Israelites.
What is in your hand? Just a little oil, a degree, diploma or even an artisan course, a small piece of land, a few animals, a “small job ” etc . What we may consider of little or no value is what God uses to usher us to our next level
