2Sa 16:13 And as David and his men went along the road, Shimei went along the hillside opposite him and cursed as he went, threw stones at him and kicked up dust.
A blinder is defined as a limitation or obstruction to sight.
Absalom had attempted a coup de tat against his father David. David together with his men was running away in order to save his life and the lives of the people who were with him. As the king approached Bahurim, a man from the same clan of Saul’s family came out from there . His name was Shimei son of Gera. He cursed as he came out.
That was not all, he pelted the king and his officials with stones but the troops and special guards were on David’s right and left ( 2Sa 16:6). David and his men continued along the road while Shimei was going along the hillside opposite him, cursing and throwing stones at him and showering him with dirt. But David and his men ignored him and went on as if nothing was happening.
Sometimes we concentrate so much on the side shows and waste a lot of time dealing with people who pelt verbal stones and spiritual dirt at us. Like David , we need to put on our spiritual blinders and go on as if nothing is happening. We should not let them destruct or derail us from the main course. Do not forget you are properly surrounded by the heavenly troops and special guards and therefore will not be injured .
