Phi 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,Phi 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Paul was completely single minded. He knew what he wanted to achieve in this life. He did not allow himself to be distracted from this purpose. He did not want to waste his energy on secondary purposes.
He intentionally decided to forget what was behind him. To Paul , it was useless to keep on thinking on what was behind him. He did not want to belabor on his past sins, mistakes, blunders, weaknesses and faults. Like a runner, He decided to look straight a head. He looked forward to attaining the prize of being a co-heir with Christ.
All believers, like Paul, must at all cost avoid being destructed from the purpose of their being. Like an athlete, believers must strenuously pursue their goals. We must not only forget what is behind us but must also ” throw of everything that hinders…and run with perseverance the race marked out for them.( Heb 12:1) We must focus on what is a head.
