Phi 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,Phi 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
From what Paul had already accomplished, we know for sure he was one of the Apostles who would be highly rated. He is in record as having laboured more than other Apostles. He was also highly learned and at the same time one who had a personal encounter with Christ. Paul had a privilege of having visited the third heavens.
Despite all these, Paul tells the Philippians that he did not consider himself to have apprehended. He acknowledges his imperfection and the need for growth. He forgets what is behind. That is he doesn’t look back; he doesn’t mope over his failures, his mistakes and sins. ( Applied New Testament commentary, Thomas Hale) .Like an athlete, the prize Paul wants to win to win at the end of the race is full fellowship with Christ.
*All of us have not attained perfection. We are work in progress. Our goal is to become like Christ. We walk , work and fellowship with believers who at times get overtaken by faults, make wrong judgements and decisions and we wonder why such things happen. We don’t have human beings who are perfect. When we allow Christ to work in us, we become better day by day.
