Gen 19:26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Luk 17:32 “Remember Lot’s wife.
Behold a wonderful illustration given to caution us against looking back with yearning for what was left behind. This was the mistake committed by Lot’s wife when they left Sodom.
This is how Carole Mandi puts it, ” They start running as the first stones begin to pound the city. But then Lot’s wife hesitates. Perhaps remembering friends who were now facing certain death. Perhaps it was a treasured item she had forgotten to grab in her haste. Perhaps it was just the nostalgia of her previous life and how comfortable it had been. Whatever the case, she stopped and looked back. For that she was immobilized into a pillar of salt. ( Sunday nation, September 27,2020)
In our case, the past could be a lost opportunity, a promise not honored , a deal gone sour , a close confidant or a relative who passed on, a broken relationship or even the ” old good days”. Whatever it is, it should not be allowed to immobilize your current life.
Isa 43:18,19 Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wastelands .
