1Ki 19:4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”1Ki 19:5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.”
Burnout is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained and unable to meet constant demands.
Elijah had achieved all that a man/ woman of God would have desired. His three and a half weather forecast had been actualized . For the three and a half years, the Lord had miraculously provided for him. He had proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Yahweh was God . He prayed for rain and indeed rain came and Yahweh had used him to bring idolatry to an end turn the hearts of the Israelites back to God.
Despite all these, the Man of God suffered serious burnout that needed divine intervention. Instead of handling Jezebel , he ran away and prayed that he may be promoted to glory. But God knew exactly what he needed; a good rest ( away from the crowd – under a broom tree) , a time to recharge ( eat and drink both physically & spiritually), and a time to get fresh divine instructions ( Go to Horeb – The mountain of God)
1 Kings 19:8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God
