Respect for the elderly is a command from God. This is because they have experience and wisdom gained over the years which is valuable to young upcoming persons. “Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old,” (Job 12:12) . 1Ki 12:6 tells us that Solomon once sought the expertise of older men who helped him make important decisions about the kingdom of Israel.
In today’s society, the young need to be taught the value of respecting the elders and that of consulting them on different matters of life. They should treat them kindly despite their social standing. For it to go well in our lives, cherishing the old is paramount.
