Mat 25:35 ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; Mat 25:36 ‘I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Mat 25:40 “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
In this portion of the scriptures, Jesus gives us a glimpse of how the final judgement will be like. One of the criteria that will be used on the final day will be based on the sin of omission in regard to ” acts of mercy”. Christ will be like a shepherd who separates the sheep from the goats.
On the right hand will be those who performed the acts of mercy to their fellow men . Those who fed the hungry, gave water to the thirsty, accommodated strangers, clothed the naked, visited the sick and those in prison. The privileged have an opportunity to serve Christ by serving others. On the left side we will have those who neglected those very acts. Consequently, they will not make it to their eternal abode.
Although we may not consider these simple acts of love worthy of special credit, they are the very acts that will determine our place in the kingdom of heaven. When we show love to one another, it is as if we are showing love to Christ. We all have a chance to serve Christ by serving others. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it,when it is in your power to act.( Pro 3:27) We show that we care, when we share.
