Luk 2:43-45 (KJV) And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.
Joseph and Mary had left Jesus behind as they journeyed home. Since they travelled in extended family units, it was easy for them to miss Jesus as they assumed he was with the other children or maybe with the Uncles. Better still in the crowd since all of us are journeying together with a common purpose ; to reach home.
How often have we been absorbed in our family affairs or services to each other and we leave Christ behind without our knowing? It is easy , especially in our days, to assume we are serving the Lord while in actual fact we are serving ourselves. It becomes easy even to go for several days without him.
Like Joseph and Mary, let us reconsider and retract our steps and ascertain that He is still together with us . On his side, he has promised he will never leave us nor forsake us(Heb 13:5) . He will be with us until the end of times (Mat 28:20).
