Isa 63:1 Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah, this One who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength?–“I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
Isa 63:3 “I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, and trampled them in My fury; their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I have stained all My robes.
This is a singularly vivid and a dramatic prophecy made in form of a dialogue between Isaiah the prophet and a stranger whom he sees from as far as Edom adorned with dyed garments and travelling in the greatness of His strength. The prophet does not recognize him and asks who He is.
The prophet seeks an explanation of the blood splashed garments of the stranger and the answer tells us of His tremendous retributive destruction which He has recently launched against the nations hostile to Israel his chosen nation. In his might, he punishes the nations that are oppressive to his people and saves them .
And who could this be to us except Jesus who fought and conquered all man’s enemies, routed sin and triumphed over death? In him was the strength of indwelling divinity, all strength and the power of salvation. He is mighty to save and is able to save unto the uttermost because he lives forever and his power is eternal as Himself. (Maclaren’s Exposition)
