Col 3:8 But now you must also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Col 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, Col 3:10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
The saying ” bad habits die hard” means that once you become accustomed to something it is hard to break out of it. In essence it means it’s difficult to change long – established habits.
But when we come to Christ we put off the earthly nature with it’s old habits and put on new nature. The old nature was accustomed to committing all manner of sins. We put to death our sinful nature with it’s passions and desires – anger, wrath, malice , blasphemy, filthy language, lying etc. Because we have put off the old self, we must now put off it’s bad deeds also.
In school , we sung the song, ” There is a high wide change since I got born again.”
The things I used to do I don’t do them any more
The places I used to go, I don’t go there any more
The things I used to say , I don’t say them any more
The friends I used to have, I don’t have them any more
The context above denotes a total paradigm shift from the old sinful nature to the new nature. We must continue to unlearn what we were accustomed to as we position ourselves in the new dispensation. We must subdue every part of us that is causing us to sin.
