Mat 7:11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
It is the desire of every parent to supply the needs of their children. Although by nature parents are imperfect, they will always try, by all means to give what is not injurious to their children – no parent will give their children a stone instead of a bread or a serpent instead of a fish. Contrary to this, they will always endeavor to give good gifts to their children.
God’s gracious acts, on the other hand, expresses our heavenly father’s perfect nature. God gives good gifts to all his children. If imperfect earthly fathers will give good gifts to their children, certainly our heavenly Father will give much better gifts to his children. Jam 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.*
Prayer is the pointed means for obtaining what we need. Pray; pray often; make a business of prayer, and be serious and earnest in it ( Mathew Henry’s concise commentary). God knows what we need, what we desire and what is fit for us. Mat 7:11 … how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
