2 Co 1:8,9 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
Paul is probably referring to the uproar made against him by Demetrius the silversmith. These men had made their living from the silver shrines for Artemis ( A Greek moon goddess identified by the Romans with Diana the goddess of the forest and childbirth ) . Business was down because there were so many converts to Christianity. They created an uproar, and the people of Ephesus began a great riot against him. ( Acts 19:23-41)
Some of you may feel like Paul ; You are over your head, drowning ,desperate and at dead end. You have done everything in your power and nothing has worked. The good news is, like Paul, we can face whatever may come our way , for if God be for us, who can be against us? Paul had learned not to rely on himself but on God who is able to deliver us from all our troubles.
I do not need to fear what the future may hold for me, but I can live with the confidence that God is able to handle anything that may come my way.
He is able, more than able,
to accomplish what concerns me today,
He is able, more than able,
to handle anything that comes my way,
to do much more than I could ever dream,
to make me what He want me to be .(Blue letter bible)
