1 Co 6:12 Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power.
The church in Corinth was quoting and misapplying the words, ” all things are lawful to me “. Believers here were excusing their sins by saying that Christ had taken away all their sins and so they had complete freedom to live as they pleased.
While Christ has taken away our sin, this does not give us freedom to go on doing what we know is wrong. Some actions are not sinful in themselves, but they are not appropriate since they can derail us from our main agenda . These are the non essentials in our lives. The enemy’s agenda is to make sure that he keeps us busy doing that which does not add value in our christian walk.
Satan occupy us with a lot of none – essentials until we loose focus. These things clutter our lives so much that running the race marked for us becomes a challenge. We must intentionally do away with all the none – essentials by living purposeful lives. Our priority should be to do the right things at the right time.
