Exo 16:21 So they gathered it every morning, every man according to his need. And when the sun became hot, it melted. Exo 16:22 And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
The Israelites were getting accustomed to a new diet directly from God’s own hands. God had prepared for them a table in the wildernesses and had furnished it richly with a small grain white like hoarfrost, round , and of the size of coriander seed called manna . It fell every morning with the dew around the Israelites camp and was sufficient to serve the entire multitude.
The people gathered an average of about three quarts for each man. Those who gathered more than they needed, they shared it freely with others; it could not be hoarded up ( American Track society Dictionary). They were to eat everything and nothing was supposed to stay overnight. They were to trust that God would bring more bread the following day.
Like manna, Christ descends from above around the camp of believers in daily abundant supplies to meet the wants and needs . This daily raining and gathering of manna is what Jesus alluded when he taught us to pray, ” give us this day our daily bread “. The more time you spend with him, the more you get to know him. And the more you get to know him, the easier it is to trust him.
