1Sa 17:26 David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
A story is told of a boy who arrived home from school with two black eyes. His mother said to him, “Have you been fighting again? Didn’t I tell you that when you are angry you should count to 100 before you did anything?”The young boy replied, “I know mommy, and that’s what I did, but the other boy’s mother had told him to count to only 50 . At times ,the counting may be hard or not equal with that of the opponent, but most importantly is to know the value of the battle.
When David went to the battle field and heard Goliath brag of his might,he confidently knew that it was possible to slay him,,but he restrained himself from picking a war without knowing what the pay price would be.
All of us have found ourselves in skirmishes fighting certain “Goliaths ” in life. Sadly, some of the battles we find ourselves in, are not worth fighting . Although battles are inevitable, we have an obligation of choosing which battles we will fight and which we will allow to slide past. If we fail to learn how to choose our battles we may spend huge amounts of emotional and may be physical energy fighting every single battle that pops up!
