Gen 4:3-4 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
Cain and Abel are before the Lord with their sacrifices. God rejects Cains sacrifice but accepted Abel’s one. Its worth noting that both of them knew the need of offering sacrifice unto the Lord . Their performance is what influenced acceptance or rejection of the sacrifice. Cain got angry and furious after God rejected his sacrifice. His reaction gives us a clue that his attitude was wrong from the start.
Cain’s decision is a clear reminder of how often we are aware of opposite choices, yet chooses the wrong just as he did. We may not be choosing to murder, but we intentionally choose what we shouldn’t.
Beloved, its worth noting that God evaluates our motives and quality of what we offer to Him. When we give to God and others, we should have joyful hearts for God loves a cheerful giver. We should joyfully give to God our best in time, our possessions, talents etc. This is because our performance will always determine acceptability.
