Luk 5:5 Jesus instructs Simon Peter to launch his net into the deep one more time. Peter and his fellow fishermen had toiled the whole night and had caught nothing. Simon Peter expresses doubt at first, but he obeys Jesus’ command. After the obedience, they catches so many fish that his boat begins to sink.
This is a perfect illustration about faith and obedience. As an expert in fishing, he could have argued that it was practically impossible to get a catch at such an hour. But see his response, despite the fact that they have been toiling the whole night; ” nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” When Jesus told him to try again, it must have seemed like a pointless request . But Simon Peter chose to trust Jesus and obey his command even though it didn’t make sense to him. His faith and obedience led him to experience the miraculous catch . This event strengthened his belief in Jesus and his mission. He became one of Jesus’ closest disciples.
God may ask us to do things that don’t seem to make sense or that go against our own experience and expertise. If we have faith and obey God’s commands, we are going to experience major breakthroughs that we never thought possible. While I don’t underscore the area of our expertise, but when it comes to the issues of faith, it’s obedience and trust in God that is going to carry the day but not our expertise. Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey. (GB)
