Mat 27:30 Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. Mat 27:31 Then when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.Mat 27:33 And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull,Mat 27:35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: “They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.”
We used to watch in awe a certain Bus company which was at the apex of the transport industry. It was a sight to behold as it slid smoothly swinging in pride speaking of it’s unbeatable record. Today we have expressways and express transport companies.
But the Journey of Jesus to Golgotha wasn’t as awe inspiring or exciting. He had to brush with a myriad of personalities as he faced his momentous purpose in life.
Peter who appeared helpful went on cutting the soldier’s ear. Moreover having vehemently promised to never leave the Lord, his zeal led to triple denial. The chief priest and the scribes saw him as a threat and wanted to rid him off by stirring the masses against him. Others like Herod wanted to witness his miracles but when expectations were not met, they reviled him and adorned him in mockery. The opportunist in the soldiers parted his raiment in a bid to benefit from the excitement . However against all odds, he remained steadfast in his quest to meet his father’s will and purpose. Consequently God sent him a helper to help bear the cross, not as we would expect.
In the same way, spiritual pilgrimage is beset with obstacles and people that test our faith, resilience and perseverance. The Lord is with us, walking besides us, guiding us through all the darkness into the blazing light of our destiny.
