Luk 24:30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Luk 24:31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. Luk 24:32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
On the day Jesus rose from the dead, two of his followers were going to their homes in the village of Emmaus. They had heard of all that had happened to Jesus and they were talking about it. As they walked, a third man joined them. When Jesus asked them what they were talking about, they described to him what had happened. Then Jesus begun to explain their old Testament scriptures concerning himself to them.
Upon arrival, they invited him in the house. When they were ready to eat, Jesus took bread, broke it and begun to give it to them. Suddenly, their spiritual eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus and then immediately he disappeared! That’s when they made this powerful statement – ” Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures for us?”
A burning heart is a heart set on fire for Jesus. Every Christian should have a burning heart set on fire by his word and by the Holy Spirit. This fire continually burns away things that limit our passion for God . It burns bitterness, unforgiveness, pride, arrogance and anything else that is anathema to the Lord. This fire sanctifies us, justifies us , purifies us and ignites us to serve God and mankind effectively.
