Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
A valley is long low , sunken or groove area of land that is often surrounded by a higher ground. The writer of this Psalm gives a picture of deep darkness which is interpreted to mean the ” shadow of death”. This represents intense darkness which represents extreme danger.
Even though the psalmist is subjected to extreme and dangerous situations, he declares that he will fear no evil because God is with him. The good shepherd will always be there with his rod and staff – instruments of his care and protection . Even when he walks through ” a valley of deepest darkness “, he will never be alone.
Faithful ones also face fearful , distressful and extremely dangerous experiences . But we do so with confidence because God is with us. Problems will come but we will never face them alone. Our God is the God of our valleys and he will always be there with his instruments of care to give us protection and comfort. He will never forsake us or leave us.
