Psa 103:10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. Psa 103:11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
I am just imagining what would have happened to all of us if God punished us as our sins deserved. Not any of us would survive his wrath! If he was to do so, very few, would have seen the light of the day.
While God’s holiness demands payment for sins , God’s mercy and compassion restrains his discipline. The Lord’s people enjoy his “benefits” because he does not pay them back for their sins. The extent of God’s mercy is incomprehensible and his capacity for removing transgression is immeasurable ( Holman Study Bible, NKJV EDITION)
Instead of punishing us, our heavenly father demonstrates his love and mercy to us through forgiveness of sins and blessings despite our weaknesses. On one hand, we deserve to be scared because of what we have done – because we have sinned and deserve God’s judgement. But on the other hand, because he loves us, God has provided the way for all our sins to be forgiven and removed. That way is Jesus Christ, who by his death took upon himself the judgement we deserve.( Town Talk)
