Mark 6:31
And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place, and rest a while”. For many people were coming and going, and they did not have time even to eat.
Tight programs in the diary of Jesus and Apostles was evident enough that eating time wasn’t available .Jesus realized that burn out would catch up with them hence the need for a time out.He pulled them to a quiet place away from multitude and requested them to rest.
God has a never-ending energy. But by contrast, we human beings need to rest and have time “to draw breath” Our diaries will never be blank ; series of meetings, sessions, seminars, workshops, laundries, cooking, counselling, ministry, business etc
The Greeks say, “The bow that is always bent will soon cease to shoot straight”. We say: “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”. We need to develop a proper rhythm of work and relaxation. In that regard schoolteachers tell us how at the beginning of the week children work harder and better, whereas the worst lesson in the week is on Friday afternoon last period.
Taking a break enables us to sharpen our axe increasing efficiency and effectiveness. Rest is a breath of fresh air that melts tense atmosphere and strenuous feeling. Its not a sign of weakness or laziness but a moment to strategize, replace worn out parts ,grease and oil frictional areas .Learn to take a break.
