Gen 12:1-4 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:…So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
Every great journey begins with a single step. This principle is also deeply rooted in the scriptures. God called Abram to move from a familiar territory to unknown destination.
Out of this leap of faith, God established a covenant with him. He promised him that he was going to be the father of great nation and also be a blessing to the nations of the earth. It’s worth noting that Israel, the nation that would come from Abram was to follow God and influence those it came into contact with. In addition, that first step Abram made brought salvation to mankind. Through his family tree, Jesus Christ was born and became the saviour of the world.
God promised to bless Abram. This was conditional in that he had to leave his home to unknown destination. He boldly took that first step and God was faithful all through.
God is reminding us today that taking that first step is an act of commitment. Be willing to make that bold move and you will see God’s leading. God is taking you to a place of greater service and usefulness for Him. Don’t let the comfort and security of your present position make you miss God’s plan for your life. Be ready to make that first bold step and God will work on the rest.
